A Day of Travel

Today I'm headed out to Houston for work. Early rise at 4 am with the hopes of missing poor weather and daily commuting traffic. Twilight morning air is a crisp 35°, but the stars in the sky do not disappoint with their light show..... No storm clouds yet! As I gaze up and forget about the luggage I'm loading for a minute, I take a few calm breaths in. Cold in...... Warm out....... and in that Moment I am instantly grateful for my life, my job, the people I've surrounded myself with and homesick already to return to this very spot I'm standing in.

As we head to the airport, still no signs of the impending rain/snow mix that was predicted. Kiss and hug my love goodbye and head into the building full of travelers. There's this instant feeling of rushing, stress and impatience. People travelers around me are constant time checkers, missed flight makers and running for the train takers. All the while I'm there presently.... In the line for security I order a London fog from Dilettant's coffee with just enough time to spare I calculate, to check out the canolli's at Pallinos (central terminal C for both foods stops if you ever fly out of SeaTac).

Moving through the airport reminds me of one of the scenes that plays out in movies, where they slow down the main characters movements and walking. The rest of the background scene is the world flying by and somehow the main character is presented as disconnected from everything around them. The reality I have found is, that's the opposite. I feel more in touch with what is happening around me than the people rushing by worrying about the past or the future. As I get to my gate, sunlight is flooding through the windows, solidification that the rain and snow will have to wait. I find a seat at the gate waiting area where the sun is to my back, but I can still enjoy it's illumination as I sip my hot tea, sample the mini canolli's and some capavella pasta that I discovered at Pallinos.

One of the nice things (the food snacking is a bonus) about coming to the airport early besides not stressing over making it to my plane, is being able to observe other travelers. There's a couple sitting a ways from me. Older, time spent together, reflected in their mannerisms toward each other. The wife looks to have an onset condition such as Parkinson's, I hear her husband ask if she would like any eggs for breakfast and his willingness to get them for her. They settle on coffee and conversation...... it reminds me of the 'cups of conversation' I've enjoyed with my friend Yollie over the years and I miss her in that Moment. I look at the couple intermittently and appreciate the symbiotic life they seem to have with each other.

The gate waiting area is becoming fuller with travelers and I block out most of the sounds around me with one of my favorite Yoga Flow mixes of music. The sun is still a welcome element as I sit and wait for my time to board my flight. I am still looking forward to when I can get home and be with my love and our doggo. I stayed up late last night creating new Talisman pieces and I am craving to be back at my workbench. One of them was an experimental wood piece and I am really elated with the results so far! I will be sure to post the before and after....... Can't wait for y'all to see it!! Safe travels to those of you out and about like me today. Namaste.
